Volunteers at Llwyn Celyn on the Volunteer Week

Volunteers at Llwyn Celyn on the Volunteer Week

Hello,

It’s been a while since we were in touch with an update - which doesn’t mean our volunteers haven’t been busy! Read on for a flavour of volunteering at Landmark and how much it means to us…

At Belmont in Lyme Regis, the interpretation room is opened up every Friday afternoon by Rachel, John or Bella, welcoming a steady stream of passers-by to our display on Coade and John Fowles. We’ve space for a couple more on the team there, so if you live in the area and can help, do get in touch.

Last week saw our first Heritage at Work week at Llwyn Celyn funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and run by Kasia, our Engagement Officer.  Thirteen volunteers made a big contribution to repairing dry stone walls, repointing the Threshing Barn and building a new stile.  Read about the week here. The next Llwyn Celyn volunteer week in September is already full subscribed: if you’d like to join in next year, we’ll be announcing our 2017 dates in the autumn.

Volunteers have also been helping at Open Days, like long standing volunteer Hilary at Gothic Temple - who knows the building very well by now!  Others helped at the LAND Open Days at Martello TowerSaddell Bay,Lengthman's Cottage  and Lundy, as we said farewell to the sculptures by Anthony Gormley.

At the first opening of St Edwards' Presbytery to the public in May alongside The Grange, more than 800 visitors were welcomed by staff and volunteers , including our IT Manager, Mischa and her husband Andy and friends, Debbie and Steve, all stalwart volunteers. Open Days are a great way to get involved in your local Landmark. If you’d like to join in, have a look at what’s opening near you and get in touch via email.

At Shottesbrooke, Annabelle has transferred to the Communications team after a stint with Engagement. She’s now sifting through cataloguing our Photo Library and keeping it up to date and tidy, a task that benefits all involved with using our images. The IT department has welcomed Kaushik, who is helping with our ongoing IT systems integration.

Jenny, Clare and Victoria continue to manage our Friends Scheme and work incredibly hard organising events and the day-to-day running of this important part of the Landmark family. Their cheerfulness and enthusiasm is always  much appreciated around the office! Valeria too is still helping the Development team with various tasks.

It’s impossible to mention every volunteer contribution, but we are so grateful to everyone who is helping us, or has expressed their willingness to do so. A huge thank you to you all – and do keep an eye on the Get involved section of the website and our social media for news of future volunteer needs.

Best Wishes

Engagement

Don’t forget Astley Castle is open from this Friday to Monday so do pop along if in the area to see the building and see whats happening on site.
